I want to add an awning to the side of my 1999 vito. I was looking at the FIAMMA one but it looks as though I have to drill holes into the roof of my van. I have roof rails and want to know if anybody knows of an alternative to drilling holes. I have also seen awnings fitted to roof racks. This option seems like a good idea. Any help would be great.

Thule do a basic awning which fits to the crossbars of an existing roof rack. Being Thule though, you probably have to buy their roof rack too to make it work. Looks pretty easy to put on and remove so not as worryingly permanent as drilling holes! I'm sure there will be other manufacturers of this type of awning. You can also get awnings which fit to the roof gutters / rails and gutter kits but I've only seen these for VWs (T4s and T5s).
