Does any one know if there is a course available in the U.K. to learn the various techniques involved in fitting out a campervan? Particularly gas fitting qualifications.
Interesting question....my brother looked into this a while ago. The conclusion was there is no-one running a specific course on all you need to know to fit out a camper van. It seems that you would need to do generic courses which cover specific aspects which can then be applied to a van conversion e.g. electrics, gas fitting, vehicle bodywork, joinery etc. There is a site where you can search college course throughout the country here. Another option is to ask fitting companies like Reimo but I guess they do on the job training for employees only. One final possibility is boat fitting courses. Pembrokeshire College runs a fitting course and much of the work and equipment used on boats is applicable to the confined space of a campervan, the only problem is it seems like you might have to do the boat building part too!! Hi all, I am a motor vehicle lecturer at Sheffield college and a colleague and I are currently developing a course that would teach you all you need to know to convert a van to a campervan, I work at the the colleges applied engineering centre alongside plumbers and electricians (lecturers) who are intrested in assissting us to run the course and would cover every aspect of the conversion. I myself come from a commercial background and have 30 years experience in converting vans to minibuses,ambulances and catering vans I have also worked on buses, it is our intention to provide a course that will be mainly practical based and as part of the course we would convert a vw crafter van to a campervan, anyone coming on the course would be involved in the conversion and would see the conversion from start to finish. all enquiries/thoughts are welcome. email. stephen.enright@sheffcol.ac.uk
