Chevy Astro Conversion

Hi Dogboy,

Well not sure if anyone else has a Chevy Astor that they have converted.  I bought a 1994 a couple months back when my girl friend and I decided to just sell off everything we own and to try and live in the van for a year to save some money and pay off school loans.   This will not be a surf van or anything like that.  We both are actually profesionals working at very large corporations but we are sick of the barely getting by lifestyle and we want to be out of debt.  We are turning this into our home for a year.

We cut plywood out in the shape of the floor of the van.  We then laid vinnely tiles down to make it look a little nicer.  I also found some bunk Cots that we have now in the van which are pretty comfortable.  I bought a Thule Travel trunk that goes into the hitch for storage and we are working on a shelving system to hold our clothes.  I have been staying in the van a few nights a week for the past month but we both are moving into it full time on Jan. 31.

Good luck with yours.

for the love of astros.....

Hi there dogboy,

As perhaps the biggest Astro-fan ever, I felt obliged to sign up and converse with you my brother over the most deserving topic of Astro van conversions. I'm on my second Astro, and my 9th van. Most have been used for surf/windsurf/crosscountry travel in the US and Baja, Mexico. I've had them all, Fords, Dodge's, Chevy's, VW's, full size and mini vans and have made homes out of them all. What do you have in mind for your van? Travel? Sports? You've got (in my not-so-humble opinion) the best platform to work with, so lets get 'er going!
