Hi
We're considering buying a van that's been converted to a camper second hand as an intro to campers. However while it has a leisure battery fitted, it doesn't have mains hookup. How easy is this to add and can anyone recommend a company that could do it for us?

Hi,
Haven't actually done this myself so hoping someone else can give you some pointers for the DIY option. In terms of getting someone else to do it I reckon any of the main campervan conversion companies should be able to do it - where are you based? Another option would be if you knew a good sparky. Your local electrician may be able to have a look and could be cheaper than a professional conversion company although they are most likely to know exactly what their doing. I'd phone round and gets some prices. Let us know how you get on.
I would imagine that fitting a mains hook-up is not much different to fitting a mains spur into an outside shed or garage - cable from mains fusebox to another smaller fusebox mounted in the shed then wire up to a twin socket also mounted in the shed. Make sure that the ampage of the fuses in the fusebox are correct. Is there anyone who has done this for a van ?

Hi Sarah
I am currently in the process of wiring our van for mains hook up for use when on campsites or at home to charge the batteries. I will post more info and hopefully some photos when the job is complete. We have been using mains in the van for ages with the use of an extension cable but I finally got around to buying the socket for the outside of the van. More soon.
