Ok, so in case folk didn't know - the Government extended their car scrappage scheme (trade in your old car for a new one and get money off the purchase price) to vans. This is pretty good news if you are in the market for a new base van to use for converting into a campervan.
Same as the car scheme, the Van Scrappage scheme was amended in Oct 2009 and now applies a £2,000 discount on new vans bought when owners trade in vans that are over 8 years old. However, you need to be quick as the scheme is time-limited with a deadline of March 2010.
The details: The Government will meet a maximum of 50% (£1,000) of the cost of a new van with manufacturers contributing the remaining £1,000 or more if they choose. The eligibility criteria for vans to be traded in are simple. In fact, there is just one. The vehicle must be over 8 years old. There was a clause about being close to 8 years old and registered before August 2001 but that no longer applies as we are past August 2009.
All the usual suspects are offering van scrappage e.g: Ford, Renault, Volkswagen, Vauxhall, Citreon and Mercedes.
So worth a look if you are thinking about upgrading your van. Unfortunately for some of us even with £2000 off the price, a nice new shiny VW Transporter 2.5TDi would still be unfeasibly expensive!!
Oh, well
