Fitting false roof

Hi,

The roof of our VW LT28 campervan is only about 7mm thick and not metal (glass fibre?)... at the moment the rear of the van has no insulation at all. I would like to fit a false roof which would house new spot lights, insulation, speakers you get the idea. This would also then match the front of the van which has a false interior roof.

The existing false roof appears to be made up of a wooden bracket and then ply wood shell. I would like to replicate this to the rear but without taking the existing false roof apart i dont know how this has been secured in place. With the roof only being so thin i wondered how others would approach this:

I could glue the wooden support brackets to the sides and roof but I dont know how secure this would be?

I could drill through the sides and roof to secure the brackets in place and then seal it all up?

I cannot see any holes in the roof to suggest that this is how the front part of the roof is secured so would assume glue? If glue is the best approach does anyone have any recommendation on a decent product?

Thanks very much

Shane
