Split charge relay fuse blowing

Hi Guys,

Who can help with this problem... my split charge relay works fine in that the 2nd battery successfully gets charged.  But once in a while one of my 30Amp fuses blows.  I've no idea why!!

Help!

Why drive home when you can crash in the van?

Which fuse and whats your circuit?

Hi Kenny...

Sounds like you might have something slightly wrong with your set up - how about sharing a circuit diagram with us and highlight which fuse blows...

Split charge relays can be the perfect solution, but sometimes getting the connections right can be a bit of a bugger... especially with modern alternators & electrics - car electrics keeps getting more complicated all the time.  It used to be much easier!!

Split charge relay or battery switch

Hi guys,

I used to have a split charge relay but gave up after a while because I had a similar fuse blowing problem and couldn't get to the bottom of it.  In the end I just put a big switch in which lets me isolate the second battery when I'm parked up, but hook it into the charging system once I'm driving.  So long as you remember to flick the switch at the right times it works pretty well!
