Cleaning a water tank

Wasn't sure where to post this?  I know it's nothing to do with insulation and heating but here is my question anyway......

Decided the water storage tank in my campervan needed a clean out.  I tried putting sterilising tablets in but ended up removing the cupboard panel and taking it out so I could give it a scrub.  The water pump had a particularly nice film of something on it?!!

Anyway, does anyone know of a better way to do this, preferably keeping the tank in situ?  I'm wondering if there is a good cleaning agent I could just flush through the system?

Cheers

Water tank solutions...

C,

I've just ended up changing my water tank regulalry (every few months).  However, I've got the small, budget version and just use an old cleaned out diluting juice bottle (5L).   Tho' this means it does need changed alot it also means it is dead cheap.  I've also got it in it's own cupboard so it is easy to do.  Doesn't really answer your question but I found the same problem with cleaning in a previous van.  Be interested to see if anyone else has any ideas?
