Mitsubishi L300

Hi all,

Im about to embark on turning my newly aquired L300 Super Exceed into a semi campervan. Question is has anyone done this type of van before and got some tips etc?

Its quite small compared to say a VW T5 etc but to me it was what i needed. 4x4 and a cheap entry into the camper world.

I have a few ideas on how to fit stuff to overcome space problems etc. Do i take it to a conversion place or should i go for it myself.

Ive been searching the internet for places that sell kits for this, ie kitchen units, hobs, sinks and fridges etc?

Has anyone ever mounted a water tank on say an expedition roof rack? Surely this will overcome the need for a water pump?

Thanks in advance

Mike

ps loads more questions yet to come!!

Hi Mike,I actually used to

Hi Mike,

I actually used to have a Mitsi L300 and it was sweet as!  The conversion was pretty basic but had all the essentials fitted in - bed, sink, stove, etc.  A small campervan, but a great vehicle - brings back good memories!  Mine wasn't 4x4 though I wish it had been - remember getting stuck at least a couple of times!

Obviously I'd recommend converting it into a campervan yourself, though if you're pushed for time, not diy inclined, or have some spare cash there are some pretty appealing professional conversion options out there.

There are loads of places to get sinks and stoves from - either campervan conversion specialists like Reimo, or a general caravan / yacht chandlers / motorhome company also tends to have everything you need.  Good to shop around and get some ideas from various places.

Having the water tank up high probably would negate the need for a pump, though pumps are dead cheap and easy to install and they link into the switch on your tap so I'd always put one in anyway I think as it removes the possibility of water gushing out of your tap if your tap seal goes (with a pump the pump would have to break as well).

Good luck & enjoy!

Mitsi L300

Hi Mike,

Had a great trip in an L300.  Wasn't really a proper conversion, the bed took up most of the space with a camping stove for cooking and a 10L plastic cider carton for water but lived in it for 4 months so couldn't be that bad!  I think you are on to a good idea with mounting as much as you can on the outside of the van with the interior size being an issue although at least parking will be a breeze!  I've seen water tanks and spare gas bottles on roofracks or you could construct a frame on the back doors for extra storage.  A solar shower is a pretty good buy.  Can be flat packed when not in use and then hung off the roof rack for a quick wash.  Best if you are somewhere warm-ish and semi-private mind.

Great van, hope you get it done.

M,

I've got an old L300 at the mo.  Mechanically it's been pretty good but age and wear is getting to it.  If you have any great ideas on how to treat rust I'd welcome them....
