Ply lining

Hi All,

I have recently decided to convert my vauxhall movano and have a few questions after trawling through no end of sites and gathering a lot of info. The main thing that i can not seem to find the answer to is when i ply line the sides and around the windows (which are not in yet) do I upholster the walls directly onto my ply lining or does this material attach to another board that pins to the ply lining itself and what type of material is used on the walls I have no idea and can not tell from images on websites.

Your feedback would greatfully accepted

Wall upholstery

Hi John,

Most folk I know just upholster straight onto the ply lining.  There is a brief mention of wall carpeting and materials on this site - here.  The only thing you might want to do is take a note or somehow mark where the key screws are in the ply just in case you ever wanted to remove the lining.

Again, most ones I've seen, have some kind of carpet on the walls.  You want something pretty thin but a balance between soft and durable, although it doesn't need to be anywhere near as robust as any floor covering.  It helps a bit with heat retention, certainly makes things more comfy and something light in colour can also help the inside of the van to look a bit bigger.

The best option is if you can actually get a hold of the stuff that professional vehicle fitters use, think the kind of upholstery you get in a coach or train.  A friend went somewhere in Hull and got a load of off cuts cheaply.  I had a look in the touchlocal online directory under Car Trimmers and Upholstery and found a few possibilities in Hull and Doncaster but not sure if these are the ones.  Yell probably lists a few too.

As with most things in conversion though, you could use what you want and if you have any old carpet or material lying around that you don't mind the colour or pattern off then go for it.  Lastly for sticking carpet down the link above goes through some of the options.  Cheers.

Your a star, just what I

Your a star, just what I needed to know. I can now pay a bit more attention to the detail of the lining rather than throwing it in, thinking I would cover the ply with another board and its covering. Please watch this space there will be a lot more questions.

Cheers John
