Hi guys,
im about to embark on the conversion,
just making my mind up on the van, probably will be a transit med hi long w/base,
so now in the process of knowledge building, ouch my brain hurts already,
a few questions guys,
do you install the said corner jacks like on caravans?
do you frame the windows with 2x1 batton to fix the ply lining to if so do you bond them on with gripfix??
would one of those spinning air vent thingies do on top???
do you panel the whole of the back doors, if yes would you insulate between the window blank and panel????
just for starters, andy
Hi Andy, good to hear you're giving converting a go. In terms of your questions there are no right answers but for what it is worth...
- I haven't panelled the back doors in the conversions I've done. I've just left the panels which were there but then there have been windows and the area has been pretty small. If you have a bigger van and there are no back windows it will be a reasonably big surface area so might be an idea. In terms of covering the window blanks, depends if you ever think you might put windows in? The section on insulation is pretty useful. Basically put what insulation you can behind existing panels and make any new ones you need from thin plywood. I'd recommend you fiix plywood or battens where you can with screws into the metal, although be careful. Gripfix, no more nails, impact adhesive etc should work for small, light and low load bearing stuff.
- Reckon the spinning vent is a really good idea to keep the van ventillated, especially if you are cooking inside. I've always just gone for a sliding window set about the stove but a vent would be much better. Just need to be careful about cutting a hole in the van roof and making sure it is sealed properly. You can buy vents designed for just the job pretty easily online.
- Have to admit I don't know what corner jacks are?! sorry. I guess it is a caravan thing, someone else might know?
Good luck
