Hi Everyone, This is my first post here.
I have a 2007 Renault Master swb dci100 automatic. Both myself and my wife are disabled, so the vehicle has been factory converted to take wheelchairs.
When we bought it, it had a wheelchair lift to the side door, this did not suit our needs, so we had a wheelchair lift installed in the rear of the vehicle.
The vehicle has got air suspension, which was probably ordered for the vehicle by the previous owner, who bought it from new. The problem is, as we now have the wheelchair lift at the back, we do not need air suspension.
Is it possible to convert it back to coil springs and shock absorbers, if so what would the cost be roughly to do this.
I have asked this question on the Renault forums, but nobody has given me an answer, so i thought i would ask here, as more people here seem to have Renault Masters.
Thank you very much.
Any help and advice very much appreciated.
Woody
Hi Woody,
In theory I don't see why not. I've certainly seen conversion kits online although they seem to be primarily for US vehicles. As you suggests, the kit involves replacing the air ride parts with coil springs and passive shocks that don't need all the fancy electronic get up, the compressor, height sensors etc (so less to go wrong!). The advice then seems to be just leave the electronic bits inactive rather than remove. The only price I've seen is for an imported US conversion kit for a Range Rover at $749. Suprised you haven't had an answer yet. I guess a Renault garage would be the best place to ask...... Good luck.
Hi Campergirl, Thank you very much for your reply. Sorry have not replied before, but have not had broadband since Monday, just got new router.
I will look to see if i can find a conversion kit, for Renault master, i have seen kits for Mercedes Sprinters, so i would imagine there must be kits out there somewhere.
Many thanks again
Woody
Why do you want toreplace your air springs? I have just done the reverse of what you are planning to my Merc Vito. The difference in ride confort is so much better both smoother and quieter. If your air bags are past their best try www.airride.co.uk I have no connection to this company other than being a very happy customer. It will probably cost less to repair your air system than it will to rplace it. Most independant HGV mechanics would be able to help if you are not up to the job. I am lucky that I have a good freind who is in love with his spanners!!!!!
