Hi
I am about to start wiring my LDV conversion, and I had a look at the information about electrics on here. On the instructions for my relay there is a wire to the alternator charge light as well as to the starter battery, but on the page here I see there is only the wire to the battery. Is the other one essential?
Hi, i also just fitted a seperate leisure battery and linked it via some thick cable up to a relay next to the engine battery. At the moment i am using a dash mounted switch to operate the split charging as i cant find the correct wire from the alternator which should energise the relay automatically when the engine starts
If you know the answer to this or someone else joins it and can tell us etc we will both make progress
My convoy uses the transit 2.5 engine so i guess the alternator is tranny based too? but 3.5 convoys used rover 3500 engines.
Hi i re read your comments and realised i didnt answer correctly
The charge light wire acts as an earth for the relay. When the engine starts engine charge light goes out and the relay actuates so both batteries are linked.
The battery wire you mentioned IS needed to provide the 12V + to the relay, the other side of the relay goes to the charge light, So....when the charge light goes out (when engine starts) it goes negative which causes the relay to energise and your in busuiness!!! - split charging
.Now i have answered your question Can you tell me where you connected a wire to the charge light on the dash, i dont have a kit so i dont know the wire colour or where to look andi dont want to take my dash completely apart if can help it - thanks.
Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have learned a fair bit since posting, and now know that on my LDV at least, the charge light wire is black and white if that helps at all? I am intending to connect the relay to it near the alternator in the engine bay. Unless I learn anything different I was just going to cut or strip the black and white wire and connect the relay wire into it using insulation tape! I haven't done it yet so I might ask someone in the know if there's a proper three-way connector... not sure if you can maybe use block connectors? Of even spade connectors if two wires will fit into one side? I'm assuming there can't be a feedback but I don't know much about electrics. I'll let you know if I find out differently.
i doing a lwb iveco wood work no problling.putting in a fridge micawave,tv,2 light,110amp bat will that be big enouth ,what do i need to wire it all up,can you send alist of what i need.thanks ken
